Overview

A 5-steps solution for video production

Established during COVID-19 pandemic, Vimi used this opportunity to shift their business online and found their MVP. While remote working posed significant challenges, it also accelerated the demand of video production online. As a result, they needed to digitise their processes.

Problem

The founders ran a digital video marketing agency called Pencil Rocket for 4 years. They understood the clients pain point and have a vision of how the digital product should look like, but they do not know where to start and what to build.

Solution

They have a 5-steps solution in mind and they want to flesh out individual features. They also want to digitised their process so customers could submit their video request without having to talk to someone.

User Research

We looked into their past users data and created a few user personas. First step to create a video for a client is to get a complete overview of the deliverables, deadlines and vision of the project. We want to create an online form and started testing out the content on typeform.

Target users

People who want loads of bite-sized videos; either in bulk or quite consistently

Low-Fi Sketch

We did a concept sketch of the screen flows and named our first feature “brief builder”.

Key Takeaways
01

Having an idea for a solution wasn’t good enough unless we have validated with the user data

02

Lack of a dashboard where clients can have an overview of all the exisiting projects at different stages

03

Major products in the market lack desirable features and feel impersonal, outdated and untrustworthy

04

Account settings allow for personalization, data persistence, security, and ongoing engagement

05

Considering how information on screen makes users feel overwhelmed, espeically on mobile devices

06

Lack of communication process between end-to-end users, whihch are videographers and editors

System

After conducting user interviews, all the participants responses were synthesized to identity themes, opportunities, and features that Vimi as product could focus and improve upon.

UI Component Development

Being the only designer in the team, I created branding guideline and design assets to ensure consistency across the screens

Cooking up a better experience

To kick-off the design process, quick sketches helped me get ideas on Figma (as we are all working remotely) to establish which elements were necessary for each screen. A low fidelity prototype was then created for initial user testing.

Sketches

Rough sketches were done to get my initial thoughts on paper and brainstorm new ideas for specific UI elements.

Mid-Fidelity Prototypes

Using the feedback and insights gained from research, analysis and sketching, a low-fidelity prototype was created to begin user testing.
